Have you ever been in a serious relationship and it felt long distance? This blog might be too deep for some, but if you know me, I keep it real. The other day I was about to read my bible, but I felt so sleepy and ready to call it a night. I thought to myself, how could I be in a serious relationship with God but desire to go to sleep before looking at his word? I felt distance. I had to check myself and realize that my morning devotionals and a few prayers throughout the day weren’t enough. I no longer wanted my relationship with God to feel long distance. I found ways to get back to making my relationship with God closer than ever. I hope these ways help you because they sure are helping me.
First, make it clear that God comes first. When you put him first, everything feels right. I choose him first every morning because doing this makes all things flow in the right directions. In any relationship God must come first. God comes before my family, friends, and my relationship. When we start putting others first, it pushes God behind. Putting others first can cause distance when God is supposed to be the one closest to us.
How to make more time for God? This can be done by listening to worship music, praying, reading devotionals, and the list goes on. God is everywhere, so you can make time for him anywhere. Go on dates with yourself while seeking God, journal, or simply just study your bible. If God has time to protect us, love us, and never leave us, we should do the same. We put everything on our calendar but we need to start putting time slots just to be alone with God.
Don’t get so caught up in the world. The world can be full of distractions! Don’t let these things pull you away from Jesus. Make sure you are giving more time to God rather than social media and others things that keep you looking. As I encourage myself, I want to also encourage you to keep your eyes on the prize.
So yeah, I’m not a fan of the distance. God has always been close, so I must dare not to feel like there’s distance. The same God that is close to me is also close to you. Spending more time with God not only brings clarity, it also brings peace and true joy. Never be too lazy for God, because he always goes the extra mile for me and you.
