Keep Going

The month of June has been treating me great, and yesterday I was pushed to another level. I was excited to get an invite from my two friends about going to walk a mountain. If you know me, I’m always down for a thrill. The day before working out, I was overly excited. I feared that it might rain, but thankfully the rain didn’t show up. I walked this mountain before, so I thought it would be pretty easy.

Saturday finally came, and I was ready. I had on a comfortable workout outfit, snacks, and a huge water bottle. It was two other friends and me, and we were all ready for an adventure. Heading to Atlanta, we got Starbucks and free Chick-fil-A fries. I’m glad we had a pre-mini-meal before arriving.

We made it! The first stop was to use the bathroom! Next, we headed up to conquer the mountain.  I told myself this is going to be easy; I danced up this mountain before. I also felt as if it might be a considerable challenge. Boy was I in for a surprise.

After I slipped once, I fell again, and I just wanted to chill after that. I was thinking, why did I wear these cute shoes! I should have worn my other shoes although they didn’t match my outfit. I wanted to chill and look cute, but my friends went into motivation mode. I’m thankful for their motivation and encouragement.

One of my friends told me to switch shoes with her. My other friend kept saying, “come on, Aeriel, we’re almost to the top.” I’m good at being a friend to motivate, but it felt good to have friends that can push me also! After I made it to the top, it made me think about a lot of things.

What things did the mountain teach me? Once I made it to the top, I thought about how a challenge isn’t that hard when you keep going after you fall. The most important lesson I learned was never to give up. It’s essential to surround myself with others who support me as much as I support them. A tip to others, when it hurts, keep going, if you fall, keep going, and always surround yourself with the right people.
