My sister told me things would change in my 30s, and I definitely believe her. While in my 30s, I began to see life differently. My priorities shift, my perspective changes, and I start realizing that everything I once thought was important may not be as important as I once believed. I’m learning that growing older isn’t just about adding another year to my age. It’s about growing wiser, becoming stronger, deepening my relationship with God, and learning to appreciate the woman that I am becoming. My 30s are teaching me many lessons that I didn’t always understand in my 20s. Some lessons have come through beautiful experiences, while others have come through challenges, disappointments, and moments when I had to surrender and trust God.
Here are five things I’m learning in my 30s.
1. Putting God First Changes Everything
One of the biggest lessons I’m learning is that I cannot successfully navigate life without God leading the way. Sometimes I get so caught up in our responsibilities, relationships, careers, finances, and everyday routines that I don’t spend enough time with God, who is the One who gives me strength. I’m learning to pray more, worry less, and trust God’s timing even when I don’t understand His plans.
Matthew 6:33 (KJV) says:
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
2. Protecting My Peace Is Important
I’m learning that everything does not deserve my energy, attention, or reaction. Not every disagreement needs an argument. Not every situation requires an explanation. And not everyone will understand the decisions I make.As women, I sometimes carry so much emotionally. I want to make everyone happy, keep everything together, and ensure everyone around me is okay. I’m learning that I matter too. Protecting my peace means setting healthy boundaries, walking away from unnecessary drama, and recognizing when I need a moment to breathe.
Philippians 4:7 (KJV) reminds us:
“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
3. I Don’t Have to Compete With Anyone
One thing my 30s are teaching me is that everybody has their own journey. Social media can make it easy to compare my life to someone else’s. You see the beautiful homes, vacations, businesses, careers, and accomplishments. But what I see online is not the entire story.I’m learning to celebrate other women without questioning my own progress. Someone else’s blessing does not mean God has forgotten about me. Someone else’s success does not cancel out what God has planned for my life.
Galatians 6:4 (KJV) says:
“But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.”
4. Investing in Myself Is Not Selfish
I’m learning that I cannot pour into everyone else while constantly neglecting myself. As a woman, wife, mother, friend, and individual, there are so many responsibilities that can demand my attention. But I also have dreams, goals, gifts, and passions that deserve attention. Whether it’s furthering my education, starting a business, writing a devotional, improving my finances, taking care of my appearance, or simply making time for myself, I’m learning that personal growth and self care matters.God did not give gifts and dreams for me to leave them sitting on the shelf.
Proverbs 31:25 (KJV) says:
“Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.”
5. God’s Timing Is Better Than My Own
If there is one lesson I’m continually learning, it’s patience. Everything won’t come to me when I want it! Sometimes I have a timeline for my life. If it’s in God’s will, it will happen. I imagine where I should be, what I should have accomplished, and what my future should look like. But life doesn’t always happen according to my schedule. There are moments when I pray for something and have to wait. There are seasons when I feel like I’m making progress slowly. And there are times when God redirects me in ways I never expected.I’m learning that a delay does not automatically mean denial, and a different direction doesn’t mean I’m failing.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV) says:
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
A small reminder for the woman reading this,
To the woman in her 30s who is still figuring things out, I want you to know something. You don’t have to have everything together. Trust in the Lord! You can be a woman of faith and still have questions. You can love your family and still need time for yourself. You can be grateful for where you are while still dreaming about where you’re going. Give yourself permission to grow. Don’t allow your past to define your future. Don’t allow comparison to steal your joy. And never allow the challenges of today to make you forget the promises of God.
Your 30s are not a deadline. They are another beautiful opportunity to become wiser, stronger, and lean on God to carry you through.
